Sewage Problems We Clean Up

Sewer Line Backups

Sewage coming up through a basement floor drain, shower or toilet when the house line or the street main is blocked or overloaded.

Cesspool and Septic Overflows

Much of Suffolk County and parts of Nassau are not on public sewers. When a cesspool fills or fails, waste can back up into the lowest drains.

Toilet and Drain Overflows

Overflows that run across floors, through ceilings or into the unit below in apartments and multi-family buildings.

Storm-Driven Backups

Heavy rain overloads older systems and pushes mixed storm and sewage water into basements, often in low-lying South Shore neighborhoods.

How Sewage Cleanup Works

A documented, systematic approach every time

1

Safety and Containment

We protect the rest of the home, set up containment if needed, and wear proper protective gear for Category 3 water.

2

Extraction

Contaminated water and solids are pumped out and removed safely.

3

Removal and Disinfection

Porous materials that touched sewage, like carpet, pad and drywall below the wet line, come out. Remaining surfaces are cleaned and disinfected.

4

Drying and Documentation

Commercial dehumidifiers and air movers dry the structure, checked with moisture readings, and we give you photos and logs for your insurer.

Common Questions

Sewage Cleanup FAQ

Yes. Sewage is Category 3 (black) water under the IICRC S500 standard because it can carry bacteria, viruses and parasites. Keep people and pets out of the area, avoid skin contact, and do not run fans or the HVAC system, which can spread contaminated air.
A very small toilet overflow on tile can be cleaned with gloves and disinfectant. Anything that soaks carpet, drywall, wood or a finished basement should be handled by a professional, because porous materials that touch sewage usually have to be removed, and the space needs proper disinfection and drying.
Usually only if your policy has a water backup or sewer backup endorsement. Many standard policies exclude it. Check your declarations page or ask your agent, and take photos before cleanup starts. We document the damage with photos and moisture readings for your claim.
Common causes are tree roots or grease in the house sewer line, an old cast-iron or clay pipe that has cracked or collapsed, a municipal main overloaded by heavy rain, and on much of Long Island, a full or failing cesspool or septic system. A plumber or your cesspool service can confirm the cause after cleanup.
